There are a lot of tips out there about how to be more productive and efficient throughout your day. Some of them are great, and others, not so great, but one thing I do that I feel has been beneficial is writing notes on my shower door.
You’ve heard of that, right? The tip to keep a dry erase marker handy in your bathroom to write on the shower door or mirror. I have a huge glass wall in my shower, and it works perfectly when something pops into my head. We all do some of our best thinking and brainstorming in the shower, so it makes perfect sense even if it sounds a little weird.
Sometimes the things I write down are of a more personal nature: remember to buy milk or take out the trash. But other times I think of business-related things for Stone Development. Whether I’m having big ideas or just remembering small items, none of it does me any good if I don’t remember them or don’t take any action. Maybe it’s a blog post idea I randomly come up with that I’ll know I’ll forget or maybe it’s something I need to remember to tell another team member.
These are not things project management software will help you with, but they are important. Figuring out a system that helps you remember and keep up with all these little details is crucial for running a truly great business, no matter what kind of business it is. Ideas can pop at random times – in the car, in the shower, at the gym, during a meal, or (my other personal favorite) right as I’m falling asleep. Think about how YOU can help YOU, and stage ways to easily capture that thought. If it is not easy, you won’t do it.
Being on top of things is really important to us at Stone Development. There are many things we can’t control, but this is something we all CAN control. The only downside? You may have to clean your shower door a little more often!
